The Geneva International Salon of Inventions — the world biggest event of the kind — has been held for many years in Geneva in April under WIPO aegis.
«Salon-2015» gathered 752 exhibitors which presented about 1000 novelties in 22 different fields and many of these novelties were given awards. The Scientific and Technical Association Technopol-Moscow (Russia) awarded the French firm EVEON for creating a «smart» syringe — a mini device allowing a patient to inject the prescribed dose of medicine independently. The award of Gorodissky & Partners, Russian IP law firm, got two Chinese inventors for robotization system for orthodontic operations.

«Soviet» old trademarks are diluted in the customers’ eyes because of litigations, sales are decreasing» — it is the opinion of Viktor Stankovsky, Director of Gorodissky & Partners St. Petersburg office. According to his words, «companies could conclude an agreement dividing regions of production and brands or exchange cross-licenses for manufacturing goods».

About 30 applications for famous trademarks (among them Valio, President, Domik v derevne) have been recently filed with the Russian PTO for goods «sour cream», «fermented baked milk», «condensed milk», which were added to Class 29 as of January 1, 2013. According to Vladimir Biriulin, Partner of IP Law Firm Gorodissky & Partners (Moscow), the Russian PTO would probably reject such applications, but «if these trade marks would ever be registered, the right owners are able to appeal the registrations in the Chamber of Patent Disputes with highly probable subsequent cancellation of registrations of these trade marks».
