9 September 2019

A diplomatic conference was celebrated in Nur-Sultan (the capital of Kazakhstan) on September 9, 2018. It adopted a Protocol on Protection of Industrial Designs to the Eurasian Patent Convention. Plenipotentiary representatives of all eight countries, parties to the Convention, took part in the Conference. The Final Act of the Conference and the Protocol were signed by six countries: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.

The Protocol is an Addendum to the Eurasian Patent Convention. It provides for patent protection of industrial designs.

The Protocol sets forth that the Eurasian Patent Office will accept patent applications for industrial designs, will examine them and grant Eurasian patents for industrial designs.
